Bangladesh: RAB destroys 'ripened' mangoes

Around 418 maunds, nearly 15.6 tonnes, of mangoes, ripened with carbide, were seized and destroyed by the Rapid Action Battalion on Wednesday night.

The members of the RAB-8 seized the mangoes from Fulbaria bazaar of Saltha Upazila.

Thirteen mango traders were fined Tk 176,000 for chemically ripening the delicious fruits.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Saltha Upazila SM Tuhinur Alam was present at the time.

The chief of RAB-8 Faridpur camp, Lt commander Wali-Ur-Rashid, said the team conducted a raid on a tip-off.

The seized mangoes were brought to Faridpur, under instruction from the district deputy commissioner on Thursday, and crushed with a bulldozer in Maylagar of the municipality.
