AU: Japanese find our mangoes too expensive
Japanese importers have slashed their mango orders from North Queensland, as their country continues to feel the effects of a recession.
Australian mangoes are the most prized fruit in Japan, and are often sold as a gift for as much as 0 apiece.
But they're now too expensive for many consumers, and Atherton Tableland exporter Bruce Nastasi has had his orders cut by three-quarters as a result.
"The issue is that in an economy where you got a recession people tighten up and spend less," he says.
"The gift market is getting tighter and tighter because people are conserving their money."
